How to make Prop Parchment

Hey Everyone,

It's been a crazy week, but the gatling gun is complete, and there's a new prop video up--How to make prop parchment. With a bit of Worcestershire sauce (try saying that one five times fast) and a tea bag, I transform a piece of print paper into parchment. Click here to check it out!

Hey everyone,

Recently I was approached to build a prop
sci-fi gun. The interesting aspect of this project is that it must be designed for an actress with one leg. The idea is that the gun itself will serve as her crutch. It's been a fun project, and has required me to use stabilization techniques that I haven't tried before. I finally settled on Bondo. Depending on how much hardener is used, it can become as solid as concrete. Principal photography begins this week. Here's a pre-painted pic of the gun.

Arkham Rock Opera

Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow's the debut of Random Encounters' Arkham Rock Opera. Congratulations to AJ, Peter, and everyone else who worked on the project. In celebration, here's a picture of the Scarecrow's Fear Serum Injector Gauntlet. The Gauntlet itself is a pair of 2 liter Pepsi bottles, the canisters on the gauntlet are more soda bottles, cut up and filled with cellophane, with cut up squeeze-it bottles capping them off. The veins running from the gauntlet are glow stick necklaces, and the finger tip syringes are a combination of cannibalized soda bottles and glow sticks. The needles are BBQ skewers. Check back tomorrow for more Arkham Prop insights, as well as a link to the video.

How to Build The Riddler's cane

Hey Everyone,

Last Halloween I decided to go as the Riddler, and as I work in Props, the Riddler's cane was crucial. Since then I've been asked several times how it was created. The design is really simple, even if it's not easy to execute. the cane is a metal rod, and the chessmen are plastic. We drilled through the chessmen with a Drill press, and screwed them onto the rod, one at a time. The knights were especially tricky as they're so thin. Next we found a picture of the head piece from Jim Carrey's Riddler cane, and used it as a template to cut out the shape and round the edges. We put a stopper on one end, and screwed the headpiece to the top, and spray painted the whole thing gold. My cane is flexible, because my chessmen were small, and I had to buy an accommodating rod. If you try this, I would suggest using larger chessmen, and getting a thicker rod than mine. Best of luck with you Riddling.

First Post!

Hi everyone,

and welcome to the Prop Master's handbook. I guess normally on a first post you start off with who you are, and what you do, so here goes. I make props, on a very low budget, for videos and web shorts. Recently, I started a Youtube channel with DIY videos on several props I'm commonly asked for. Provided is the link to my Channel. Looking forward to building with all of you, so let's get started!
